Genealogy

Barbara started genealogy on the family at age 13 and has dabbled in and out of it ever since. In 1989 she became a serious researcher, or as serious as one could be with a family at home and a full time teaching job.

She has written several genealogical books::
Those Germany Genes (Germany family name)
A Harrold History (Harrold family name)

She published Keep In Touch, a George Family Newsletter from 1994 - 2004 and Discovering Denny Descendants, Newsletter, semi annually from 1994 - 2004.

Teaching with Technology

Barbara utilizes her past teaching experience and technology expertise to teach with technology-- online courses to students and adults all over the world through the Internet. Her online courses are known for being fun and easy to understand. She personally guides students through wonderful preselected sites on the Internet and explores a variety of subjects in a fun format.

She spends the rest of her spare technology time online reading email and exploring the Internet for new and exciting activities to include in her courses. She is the co-host for The Denny/Denney Genealogical Mailing List and GenConnect List and serves as an Internet volunteer look-up for the Ky GenWeb Project.

Traveling and Camping

Barbara started traveling with her parents before she was 1 year old on vacations all over the United States. Since having a family of her own, the fun of family vacations has become a tradition carried down to the grandchildren.

They all load up in the family truck that pulls a fifth wheel and explore many of the National Parks by hiking and camping. They are also found at a lake for restful weekends on the water to enjoy boating, tubing and water skiing.

Barbara and Brooks have recently become interested in Cowboy Poetry Gatherings and Single Action Shooting and enjoy traveling to and attending a variety of these events. They were fortunate to meet the famous Jack Weil, founder and CEO at age 107, at Rockmount Western Wear in Denver before he passed away.

Stamp Collecting

Another hobby started as a child was stamp collecting. Barbara is a real stamp collector. She doesn't buy stamps to save. She tears corners off of envelopes and soaks the stamps off. Family members still receive "snail mail" with fancy stamps and strict instructions to, "save the stamp" written on the envelope. Her collection started in the 50's to be "all inclusive" for U.S. and World collecting. She soon realized that was too overwhelming so today, although she collects any that come in on envelopes, she actively collects US. Commemoratives.

Gnome Collecting

Barbara fell in love with Tom Clark's Gnomes from Cairn Studio the minute she saw them on the store shelves in the 70's. The personalities of these little figures mix with her life and memories really well.

Totally Amateur Photography

Barbara is the type to just see something and take a simple picture of it. Her favorite subjects are grandchildren, windmills, covered bridges, lighthouses, birdhouses and fences. One of her windmill pictures was selected for appearance in the May 1999 issue of Texas Co-Op Power Magazine in the Focus on Texas segment. The theme was "Old Texas Hidden Among the New."
